Rev. John H. '(Jack)' Kidder
Kidder, Rev. John H. (Jack) Born in Jamestown, New York, January 1, 1929. He died September 14, 2016, at the VA Palliative Care/Hospice Unit, Minneapolis MN. Jack enlisted in the Army at age 17, serving in the 7th Infantry Division Band in Korea. A 1952 graduate of Augustana College, Rock Island, IL, attended Lutheran Bible Institute, Teaneck, NJ. Received a MA of Div. from Augustana Seminary (LSTC, Chicago) and ordained into the Augustana Lutheran Church (ELCA) June 1957. He served the following parishes: First Lutheran, Granville, Illinois and Trinity Lutheran, Utica, Illinois (dual parish); Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, Woburn, MA; Immanuel Lutheran Church, Meriden, CT, and Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Norwood, MA. After retirement, Jack and Renny lived on Cape Cod and then moved to Minnesota where they have resided since 1996. He was preceded in death by his beloved grandson Eric John, sisters Helen, Lucille, Louise and Marian, brother Bob and parents Herbert and Lillian. Also, sister-in-law Elaine Sparby Toycen. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Renetta (Renny) Sparby Kidder; sons, Timothy (Deborah); Jeffrey (Kristen), and Matthew (Heidi); grandchildren, Ryan (Caleea), Eva (Stephen Hartman), Jackson, Chloe, Jack and Dylan; great grandchildren, Oscar and Mabel. He is also survived by Renny's family, sisters Dorean, Judy (Dave) and brother Orwin, and many nieces, nephews and friends. Our family is grateful for the Struthers Parkinson's Club Create and the VA Adult Center which has played an important role in Jack's life the past several years. And during the last weeks to the VA Medical Center, Palative Care/Hospice Unit medical staff and volunteers for their skill and comfort care. It was outstanding. The funeral for John will be on Tuesday, September 20th at Central Lutheran, 333 South 12th Street, Minneapolis. Visitation at noon. Service at 1:00 P.M. Memorials preferred to: World Vision, ELCA World Hunger, Struthers Parkinson's Foundation, Central Lutheran Church or donor's choice.
